I read with interest the article on the ABC news website reporting the Nationals’ proposal to lobby the Federal Government to ban the marketing of plant – based proteins as ‘milk’, ‘meat’ and ‘seafood’. With high numbers of milk and meat producers in the Scenic Rim, this discussion is certainly relevant and I agree that reform is necessary. Why should plant – based products be permitted to ‘piggy back’ off the hard work of our milk and meat producers? Many years and much expertise in breeding, crop development and marketing by our rural producers has resulted in local and international consumers being able to enjoy some of the finest produce in the world. This is essentially intellectual property that deserves the same level of protection as anything produced by other industries. It is heartening that Labor appears to support the move. Perhaps with a bipartisan approach we will see change sooner rather than later. I would love to hear your opinion - Danny Bukowski
